Notts County is mourning the loss of former player Quevin Castro, who died after collapsing during a friendly match in Portugal. Castro, 25, played for Notts County on loan in 2022.
What happened?
Quevin Castro collapsed after just 10 minutes of the fixture on Saturday morning, August 22, playing for Real Massama against Estrela de Amadora. Medical teams from both sides rushed onto the pitch to assist Castro, with a defibrillator used in an attempt to resuscitate him. Unfortunately, attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Notts County released a statement expressing their shock and sadness at the passing of Quevin Castro. The club said: "We are shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of our former player, Quevin Castro. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this very sad time."
Career of Quevin Castro
Castro was born in Portugal but moved to Thetford in Norfolk with his family. He played non-league football for several clubs, including Thetford Town, Norwich CBS, and Bury Town, during his early career. In summer 2021, he signed for West Brom and made his debut on August 25, 2021, in a 6-0 defeat to Arsenal. Castro joined Notts County on loan in September 2022, where he made 14 appearances and scored four goals before leaving in January 2023 to go to York City.
